Last Thursday I was lucky enough to delight in a showcase of some of the best food and drink in West Sussex with 16 brilliant producers from across the county attending a Taste of West Sussex event.
My neighbouring Members of Parliament and I attended the showcase relishing in the superb selection of produce on offer including sparkling wines, pastries, cheeses, chocolates, and beer to impress all-comers. My constituency was excellently represented by South Downs Honey and Slake Gin whose produce helped keep both MP’s and staff visiting over the course of the day.
The showcase highlighted the important role West Sussex plays in the British Food and Drink industry, which continues to underpin the local as well as national economy. These businesses, like many others, provide employment opportunities in the sector whilst utilising innovative skills and technologies to meet consumer needs and reducing impacts on the environment by using local organic produce.
British Food and Drink is a proud and quality business and offers a service which is renowned throughout the world. As a nation, we should endeavour to support their growth domestically and increase their export opportunities. The quality of the products on display indicates that West Sussex has every chance of establishing themselves further on the international scene.
