This year we’re celebrating the 70th anniversary of our NHS!
The government has committed to a significant increase in funding to the NHS.
Funding to the NHS will increase by 3.4% in real terms every year, by 2023 there will be an additional £20.5bn every year will be going into our NHS, that’s equivalent to an additional £394m per week in real terms.
We have asked the NHS to come up with a 10 year plan of how they want and need to spend this additional money as effectively and efficiently as possible to get the best care possible to as many people as possible.
There are 6 core principles:
-
We need to spread best practice better and in everything it does it needs to put the patient and its heart
-
We need to see a much better and closer integration of social care and health services to help address our aging population
-
We need to improve access to mental health services to ensure parity of esteem with health services
-
We need to ensure we have the best people to create the best workforce, which means more training and sensible immigration system
-
We need to embrace next technology, such as artificial intelligence, to help provide the best healthcare possible
-
We need to refocus on prevention and public health rather than using the NHS as a “national sickness service”
The NHS will remain the number 1 priority for this government. This new investment is only possible because of the prudent financial management of the economy that has seen us balance day-to-day public spending, meaning we bring in as much as we spend.
This is great news for our NHS and for out Outstanding Worthing Hospital. Happy 70th Birthday to our NHS.
