The Prime Minister’s visit to Canada today is not only about recognising our past but also looking ahead to our bright future.
Britain and Canada are both countries with ambitions to lead on the world stage and progressive values that underpin those ambitions – values including the importance of free trade, and respect for international law.
When we come together and work as one to project our shared values on the world stage, we form a powerful union.
The UK shamefully abandoned many of our trading relationships with our Commonwealth friends and allies when we joined the Common Market back in the 1970s. Leaving the EU opens up the opportunity to once again form strong free trade agreements with those who we share so much with, whether that be cultural links, cooperating in security and military matters, shared love of freedom, the rule of law and democracy, or perhaps must indelibly our shared monarch, HM The Queen.
Great opportunities await us, best we go seize them !
