A low pressure system is affecting the country and is creating an east coast 'surge', which is combining with high spring tides. These conditions could result in large waves and some high water levels around the times of high tide over the next couple of days, increasing flood risk to coastal communities.
The Environment Agency's (EA) contractors are continuing the piling work at Adur Ferry Bridge (the footbridge) to ensure that the flood defence is in the best possible condition in time for the high tide at midnight tonight.
The EA are opening our Incident Room today (13 January) and tomorrow to monitor the situation and co-ordinate our response.
Their teams are out clearing blockages and checking flood defences across your constituency – they also have temporary barrier on stand-by locally and are ready to take action in the event of flooding.
They are (as always) advising people to sign up for flood warnings and avoid walking along coastal paths and promenades when there are large waves.
