Sewage being discharged into our beaches is totally unacceptable. Along with other Sussex MPs I am holding Southern Water to account, and we have had a response to our joint letter which you can read below. I look forward to meeting Southern Water to discuss this further and will keep you updated.
Separately I’m very pleased to hear from DEFRA today that water companies will now face strict measures such as having to invest significantly in their infrastructure, increase the capacity of their networks and reduce discharges. Failure to do this will mean big fines or customer refunds. This announcement from the Government results from the pressure Conservative Sussex MPs have brought to bear on this issue and is a big step forward in protecting our sea and waterways.
