As some of you may have seen for yourselves, Shoreham Fort has been beset by vandalism and graffiti, recently.
This jewel in Shoreham's local heritage has been painstakingly restored over many years, thanks to the dedication of Friends of Shoreham Fort, led by the amazing Gary Baines. It was rescued from behind fences and dereliction but not it is threatened by this new spate of crime. There has been graffiti on the old brick work, which is impossible to remove without damaging the bricks further, the café has been broken into and rocks have been stolen from the walls.
This is an ancient monument and all of us, as the local community, need to make sure we are looking out for it. So if you do see anyone behaving oddly on near the Fort or know something then please do contact the police. There have already been some prosecutions for damage to the Fort and we need to make sure that everyone trying to damage this important part of our local heritage is brought to justice.
