The train operating companies have announced plans to close most railway ticket offices in England. In their place, roving assistants will be on concourses and platforms to sell tickets, offer travel advice and help people with accessibility.
I have real concerns about closing down ticket offices and don't think these new roving staff will be able to offer the same service to customers. Even when they are working some routes and tickets are not available from the ticket machines or on apps and there are many people who for one reason or another need the extra help that a staff member in a ticket office can offer. As such I spoke out against these plans during a statement made by the Rail Minister in the House of Commons last week.
A consultation has been launched but it is only open until 26th July. Please make your voice heard if you agree with me that these plans are a backward step. https://www.transportfocus.org.uk/train-station-ticket-office-consultat…
