The Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card can make a real difference to people looking for work by allowing jobseekers to travel to interviews at half the price. The discount card is available to those claiming Jobseekers Allowance or Universal Credit for between 13-39 weeks (18-24 year olds) or 13-52 weeks (25 and over).
Between 1 March 2017 and 3 March 2018, 1, 383 discounted journeys were made by jobseekers in East Worthing and Shoreham.
To increase the use of the discount card the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) are working with the Government to promote the card to Jobcentre Plus caseworkers, those seeking work and in the media today. To show your support for this great initiative and raise awareness of the Jobcentre Plus Travel Discount Card in your constituency, RDG have enclosed below a draft press release for your attention.
The discount card is offered as part of the rail industry’s commitments to strengthening the UK economy and local communities. As set out in the partnership railway’s plan, In Partnership for Britain’s Prosperity, rail companies are also committed to boosting communities through localised decision making and investment, including £54m to enhance almost 180 stations in the next two years.
