It was welcome news over the weekend that Google are paying more tax on their past profits. It is a success, it is progress, but it is only the start of progress. In the last few years, some of these companies were not paying any tax at all under Labour. The new Profit Diversion Tax (so called ‘Google Tax’) is sending out the message loud and clear that if companies are selling goods and services to people in the UK and making a profit on it then they should be taxed on those profits in the UK. Google is now going to pay up, it needs to pay up more and in the future it needs to pay up its full fair share.
