We were originally expecting the latest proposals from Highways England about upgrading the A27 through #Lancing / #Sompting / #Worthing to be published in June. This has been delayed because of the general election and we are awaiting a new date imminently.
To recap these proposals will be online solutions on the existing line of the A27 not a new road to the north of Worthing, which is not an option for the reasons previously given on my website here: https://www.timloughton.com/news/a27-update-0
Sir Peter Bottomley and I have already approached the Transport Secretary Chris Grayling to urge him to find additional funds for more extensive grade separation work if the consultants can show that there are more extensive alternatives that would be much more effective, as I suspect.
The A27 Working Group under Cllr Tom Wye will be meeting again next week and I will provide an update from that as soon as possible. With plans for a major development at New Monks Farm likely to be lodged shortly (with which I have already expressed my severe reservations) it is vital that we find an effective solution to congestion on the A27 before it completely grinds to a halt.
